Marrunga Yubaa - Against the Elements Series 2, Part 2

I pay my respects to Elders past, present, and emerging and acknowledge the traditional owners of this land on which I was born and raised.
The Sweet Rain series is designed to ignite imagination and celebrate life. It signifies a raindrop’s journey from the clouds to the earth and its importance to the land and our lives. The ancient traditional Aboriginal symbol of rain is portrayed through my own contemporary artistic lens. I have designed the symbol to have a cup of delicate dots that surround just the bottom of each coloured stroke, rather than a continuous line. The colour of each drop signifies part of my life story and is applied in layers of fine art strokes. In this painting you will also see a large meeting place symbol. This represents country and a celebration of rain landing on this great place we call home.
The inspiration for my art comes from within. My work portrays thoughts and feelings that have been waiting in my heart and mind to be revealed.
The colours I have explored in this artwork are reminiscent of my sometimes, unique imagination. How I envision rain is how I vision my life. Changing all the time, made up of many colours.
Learning to accept change is not always easy and realising that you can’t always control what life throws your
way can be one of the hardest things to do. However when I look back on my life, I feel grateful for the many hurdles I have had to jump as it has made me who I am today. Each hurdle I have made it over has made me stronger for the next one.
I’d like to share a quote by the great Nelson Mandela, “The greatest glory in living lies not in never falling, but in rising every time we fall.”
I hope this story inspires you to expect and accept change, that you are strong to endure so much. Life is about evolving and not letting things in the past prevent you from having a future. I hope you see an amazing colourful world and you take the time to dance in the rain.
