Exhibition at Leda Gallery Newcastle

Moments That Remain explores the quiet fragments of life that stay with us long after they have passed.

Each painting begins with a personal memory, emotion, or fleeting experience drawn from Lizzy’s life and translated into an atmospheric visual narrative.

Through landscape, weather, and symbolic elements, the works reflect the way memories soften and shift over time. While grounded in lived experience, they are not fixed stories. Instead, they invite viewers to pause and reflect, allowing their own memories and emotions to surface.

In this way, the paintings become shared spaces of reflection — moments held in paint that continue to live on through those who encounter them.

About the work

Lizzy Stageman’s practice begins with a moment—a memory, a feeling, or a quiet experience that lingers long after it has passed.

As a contemporary Indigenous artist, storytelling sits at the heart of her work. Each painting draws from lived experience, translating personal thoughts and memories into visual narratives that exist somewhere between reality and imagination.

Her work explores the way memory changes over time. Details soften, emotions deepen, and what remains becomes less about exact events and more about how those moments felt.

Through colour, atmosphere, and symbolic landscapes, her paintings hold fragments of life—fleeting moments that continue to resonate long after they have passed.
